Custom fields let you keep the extra details your studio needs that FrontRow doesn't ask for by default, such as allergies, medical notes, costume or shoe size, school, or an emergency contact. You can ask for them during online registration and show the important ones to teachers on their class rosters.
Add a custom field#
- Open Studio settings with the gear icon in the top bar.
- Choose the Registration tab and scroll to Custom fields.
- Select Add field.
- Enter a Label, such as "Allergies" or "Costume size".
- Under Belongs to, choose Student, Family or Parent.
- Choose an Answer type:
- Text for free writing, like medical notes
- Number
- Date
- Choice list for a set of options (enter one choice per line, like Child S, Child M, Adult S)
- Measurement, with a unit such as inches, centimeters, pounds or kilograms
- Add Help text if parents need a hint about what to enter.
- Choose where the field shows up (see below).
- Select Save field.
Choose where a field shows up#
- Ask on the registration form: parents fill it in when they register online.
- Required for new registrations: parents can't finish registering without answering it.
- Show to teachers on rosters (allergies, medical): for student fields only. Teachers see the answer on their class rosters, which is handy for allergies and medical needs.
Fill in or change a family's answers#
- Open the family's page (from Students, choose View Profile).
- In the Records card, find Details. It lists each family member's answers.
- Select the pencil button next to the person you want to update.
- Fill in the fields. Leave a field empty to clear it.
- Select Save.
Change or retire a field#
In Studio settings, Registration tab, select the pencil button next to a field to change its label, help text, choices or where it shows up. Once a field has answers, what it belongs to and its answer type can't change. If you need that, add a new field instead.
To stop using a field, select Archive. Its answers are kept, and you can bring it back with Restore (tick Show archived fields to see archived ones).
Tip: When you import families from another system, you can match spreadsheet columns to your custom fields so those details come across too.
Who can do this#
Owners and admins can add and change custom fields. Owners, admins and front desk staff can fill in answers on a family's page.
