Set up redirects

Send visitors from old page addresses to the right page, so links from your old website keep working.

When you move to a new website, the addresses of your pages often change. A redirect sends anyone who follows an old link (from Google, Facebook or a saved bookmark) to the right page instead of a "page not found" message.

Only owners and admins can manage the website.

Find old pages automatically#

If your old website is still online, FrontRow can suggest redirects for you.

  1. Open Website in the menu, then the Settings tab.
  2. Scroll to Redirects.
  3. Under Import from your old site, type your old site's address.
  4. Select Find old pages. We read your old site's list of pages and suggest where each one should go.
  5. Tick the ones you want and select Add (the button shows how many).
  6. Select Save redirects in the bar at the bottom.

Pages we couldn't match are added pointing to your home page. Change them to the right page before you save.

Add a redirect by hand#

  1. In Redirects, select Add redirect.
  2. Under Old address, enter the part of the old link after the domain, starting with a slash. For example, for yourstudio.com/about-us, enter /about-us.
  3. Under Goes to, enter the new page's address the same way, or a full address starting with https:// to send people to another site.
  4. Choose the Type:
    • 301 permanent: for pages that moved for good. This is the usual choice, and it tells search engines to update their links.
    • 302 temporary: for a short-term change.
  5. Select Save redirects.

To remove one, select the X at the end of its row, then save.

Good to know#

  • Redirects work as soon as your site is published.
  • If something isn't right, FrontRow shows a message under the row, like when the same old address is listed twice or a redirect points at itself.
  • You can have up to 500 redirects.
  • Changed a page's address yourself? Add a redirect from the old one so shared links keep working.
